Our little hearts going to school.
The First Day of School… Through the Eyes of Time ❤️📚
Today, my heart is full.
As I looked at these precious faces heading off for another first day of school, time seemed to stand still.
It took me back to when I was the little girl with a lunchbox in one hand and a backpack that seemed almost bigger than I was. I remember the excitement… and the butterflies. New shoes that squeaked down the hallway, sharpened pencils, fresh notebooks, and wondering if my teacher would be nice. Back then, I couldn’t wait to grow up.
If only that little girl knew how quickly time would fly.
Then one day, I wasn’t the child anymore.
I became the mom.
I remember fixing little shirts, tying tiny shoes, brushing tangled hair, making sure homework was packed, and kissing foreheads before watching my own children walk into school. I’d wave with a smile until they disappeared through those doors… then I’d wipe away a tear and pray, “Lord, watch over my babies today.”
Now those little babies have babies of their own.
How can that be?
Now I’m the grandmother standing on the sidelines, watching another generation begin their journey. Seeing those bright smiles, little backpacks, and excited faces reminds me that every first day is a gift. The classrooms may have changed, and the world certainly looks different than when I was a little girl, but one thing hasn’t changed…
The prayers.
As I watched them leave this morning, I realized something…
Life is made up of ordinary moments that become extraordinary memories.
We spend so much of life wishing for the next season…
“I can’t wait to start school.”
“I can’t wait to graduate.”
“I can’t wait to get married.”
“I can’t wait to have kids.”
Then one day, we’re looking back wondering where all those years went.
Psalm 90:12 says,
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
What a reminder to slow down and cherish the season we’re in.
To my sweet grandchildren…
May you learn more than reading and math this year. May you learn kindness when it’s hard. Courage when you’re afraid. Integrity when no one is watching. Compassion for the lonely. And may you always remember that Jesus walks into every classroom before you do.
To every parent sending their child off today…
Those lunches you pack, those hugs you give, those prayers you whisper before they get out of the car—they matter more than you’ll ever know.
And to every grandparent…
Don’t rush these moments. Take the pictures. Cheer them on. Pray over them. Love them well.
One day they’ll be the ones watching their own grandchildren walk through those school doors.
The first day of school isn’t just about new grades or new teachers.
It’s a reminder that generations change… but God’s faithfulness never does.
He held my hand when I walked into school years ago.
He walked beside my children.
And today, He’s walking beside my grandchildren.
What a beautiful God we serve.
Happy First Day of School, my sweet babies.
Grandma loves you more than words can say, and I’ll never stop praying for you. May this year be filled with learning, laughter, lifelong friendships, and the peace that comes from knowing the Lord goes before you.
“The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” — Deuteronomy 31:8 ❤️🙏📚
